Bushey beauty team cycling across Ibiza to raise cash for children's hospital

Staff from a Bushey beauty salon are to don cycling gear and bike across Ibiza to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Sarah Savage, who has owned Bare Beauty in Bushey High Street for the past 11 years, has rallied her co-workers together to take part in the challenge.

The 41-year-old mother-of-two said: “I first heard about the sponsored bike ride through HAIRRaising campaign, which gets hairdressers and beauty therapists raising cash for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

“As a mother whose son had to undergo operations and was treated in a London hospital, I understand first hand how vital the work hospitals such as Great Ormond Street do.

“My mother Sally also worked in Watford General as a play therapist, referring children to Great Ormond Street, so again I’m familiar with the treatment process.

“It’s such an important charity to support, so when we heard about the bike challenge, we all jumped at the chance.”

On May 4, Mrs Savage will travel to Ibiza along with co-workers Danielle Cook, Stacey Beckley, Amber Campion, Suzannah Hardwicke and Vivienne Allday.

The bike ride will take place over that weekend and the colleagues will have to complete 100 miles of tough cycling terrain to complete the challenge.

In order to prepare themselves for the ride, the group have been eating healthily and cycling up to six hours a week.

They have set themselves a target of £7,000 to raise for the charity with any further cash raised going to Luna Petagine from Watford, to pay for treatment for her ependymoma brain tumour.

Prior to the cycle ride, the group is hosting a Vintage Ball at Bushey Metropolitan Police Club on Saturday, March 24.

Mrs Savage, of Sparrows Hearne, said: “We’ve raised about £2,000 so far thanks to fantastic support from local businesses and our clients, but we still have a little way to go yet.

“We’re hoping that the ball will help take us to our target, so we’re encouraging people to put on their glad rags for a really great evening.

“There are great raffle prizes including a limo and nightclub experience for ten, plus there will be a live band and buffet.

“As for the cycle challenge, we all can’t wait. Not knowing what it will be like is a bit daunting, but it’s a once in a lifetime experience and a really worthwhile cause to support.”
